Many interesting events have been planned and will take place in Koper, with olive oil playing the leading role. It all starts on September 12 with the 9th traditional Olive Oil Festival, featuring tastings and talks by experts on the topic of oliviculture.
At the end of November, the New Olive Oil Festival will follow, which takes place every year at this time and offers a wide variety of gastronomic, educational, and experiential events dedicated to the best new olive oils of Slovenian Istria. The program includes a festive opening (this year on November 21) with tastings, lectures, and exhibitions, as well as special menus at selected restaurants. It is the ideal opportunity to explore the tradition of olive growing and enjoy the finest flavors of Istria.
Two months later, at the end of January, the Municipality of Koper organizes a competition for the best olive oil called “The Mayor’s Olive Oil”. The winners are selected by a professional committee and promoted by the municipality throughout the year.
In addition, the Olive Growing Institute (ZRS) organizes the Hlaj Days, with workshops on olive oil quality and olive growing with producers and representatives of public services (Ministry of Agriculture) in the field of olive growing.
