Greece

  • Olio-Extra-Vergine is a specialized newspaper on olive oil. In particular, it offers sections on gastronomy and regulations of the olive oil sector in Italy.
  • Associazione Internazionale Ristoranti dell’Olio – The Association has the following objectives: – To disseminate knowledge about excellent extra virgin olive oil, its use in cooking, the olive sector and the involvement of the restaurant industry in the aforementioned sector. – To create a network of contacts and relationships between restaurateurs and producers of extra virgin olive oil, in order to stimulate and inform the final consumer about the qualities of the oil, its correct use in cooking. – To carry out research and study activities on the oil sector, its use in catering and in good and healthy cooking in general, with dissemination of the results through meetings, debates and publications.

Portugal

It also lists events like November’s “Ljubljana Wine Route” for a deep dive into Slovenian culinary traditions.

Montenegro

Spain

Portugal

  • 2nd best olive oil production. Olive oil production exceeded 1.75 million hectoliters in 2023, which corresponds to the second most productive olive growing campaign ever.

Montenegro

Her presentation delved into the fundamental aspects of olive farming, highlighting that olive orchards occupy approximately 3,200 hectares, constituting about one-third of the total fruit tree-covered land in Montenegro.

Olive trees thrive in the country’s favorable climate and terrain, with over 450,000 productive trees spread across 3,200 hectares. The majority of these trees are part of traditional family farms, with a growing number of modern, high-density orchards. The country primarily produces olive oil, with a focus on local varieties like Zutica. However, challenges like climate change, pest control, and limited resources hinder the sector’s full potential. Despite these challenges, Montenegro’s olive oil industry offers opportunities for sustainable rural development, tourism, and the preservation of cultural heritage.

Greece

Türkiye

  • In this interview conducted by Beste Çelik with Prof. Dr. Mücahit Taha Özkaya, olive production in Turkey, increases in olive oil production, production techniques and future potentials were discussed. Stating that 2022 saw record increases in olive and olive oil production, Prof. Özkaya emphasized that climatic conditions and agricultural technologies played an important role in this increase.
  • Olive, has found a wide spread area in Turkey. Olive production is performed in 41 of Turkey’s 81 provinces and in 270 of 843 districts. 53% of the production is in the Aegean Region, 18% in the Marmara Region, 23% in the Mediterranean Region, 6% in the Southeastern Anatolia Region and 0.2% in the Black Sea Region. 55% of the production in the Aegean Region is made for oil, while 60% of the production in the Marmara Region is made for table olives. In the first half of the 2017-2018 season Turkey’s exports of table olives reached 71 million 53 thousand dollars with a 14% increase compared to the same period of the previous season.

Malta

  • Heritage malta is a website for the Maltese national agency for museums, conservation practice and cultural heritage. For that reason they did a publication about the importance, the history of Bidnija Olive Grove. The Bidnija site is divided into two distinct, but connected, areas. The first consists of around 20 large olive trees. The olive grove was protected in 1933 by the Antiquities Preservation Act and has been granted the highest level of protection ever since. It remains home to the oldest known specimens of the Bidni variety olive. However, it is currently permanently closed.
