
The General Assembly of the members of the RECOMED Mediterranean Olive Oil Towns Network in Italy
The General Assembly of RECOMED members for the year 2023 will take place in Matera,Italy on Friday, 23 June 2023.
In this 1st General Assembly of the Network chaired by Greece, Mr. George Karabatos, President of the Network, will present the strategy of the new presidency for the next 3 years, the new updated website of the Network will be presented and the accession of new member countries to the Network will be announced.
Meeting Oleoturismo nel Mediterraneo
The Associazione Nazionale “Citta dell’Olio” in collaboration with Recomed is organising an international scientific meeting on “Olive Tourism in the Mediterranean” on 23 June in Matera (Basilicata, Italy).
The meeting will be moderated by Roberta Garibaldi, Professor of Tourism Management at the University of Bergamo and Vice President of the Tourism Commission at the OECD, with the aim of creating a stable international working group to promote good practices in olive tourism in the Mediterranean. Experts from 5 countries (Greece, Italy, Croatia, Spain, Tunisia) will participate in the meeting.

RECOMED GENERAL ASSEMBLY 2023. ELECTION CHOOSE GREECE AS HEAD OF THE NETWORK
During the assembly there was also the passing of the baton between Spain and Greece as president of the Network. President for the next years will, in fact, be George Karabatos, at the helm of the OTRoutes Foundation in Messinia.

RECOMED 2023. PROPOSE PORTUGAL AS NEW ENTRY THROUGH THE APPIDAT ASSOCIATION
Newly elected George Karabatos said he was taking on the job “with great enthusiasm” and with the aim of “promoting the work of the Network with concrete actions based on new European projects, as well as expanding the network with the incorporation of countries such as France , Libya and Egypt”.

DURING ANNUAL RECOMED MEETING FUTURE PERSPECTIVES ON OIL PRODUCTION ARE DISCUSSED
According to Copa COGECA source, more than 90% of the world’s olive oil production is produced in the Mediterranean. More recent estimates predict a significant drop in the 2022-23 campaign, in particular referring to production in the European Union of about -35%. This decrease would bring EU olive oil production down to 1.5 million tonnes.

RECOMED GENERAL ASSEMBLY IN DIDIM CHAIRED BY PRESIDENT ENRICO LUPI
The general assembly of Re.C.O.Med, the Mediterranean Oil Cities Network, was held in Didim in Turkey, founded in November 2011 to create synergies in the field of promotion and enhancement of the olive oil heritage among the 13 countries that currently do part: Italy, Albania, Algeria, Croatia, Greece, Israel, Lebanon, Morocco, Montenegro, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey.

FORUM ON THE MEDITERRANEAN DIET AT MILAN EXPO
The symposium is organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Imperia and the Promimperia Special Company and by MIPAAF, which involves 13 countries bordering the Mediterranean and adhering to Re.C.O.Med. The discussion is lead by two main topics: education on proper nutrition and the value of Mediterranean food as cultural heritage.
